2009 proved a successful year for Lodge Cadder Argyle on the sporting front with teams from the Lodge winning both the Brock Bowling Cup and the Claude Hamilton Golf Trophy. The Lodge also becomes the first Lodge in the Province to win both trophies in the same year on two occasions, the first time being in 1987.
And so on Thursday 3rd September 2009 for the third time this year, a Deputation from Provincial Grand Lodge headed by the Provincial Grand Master, Brother Thomas Leckenby was welcomed into the Lodge, this time to perform the presentation ceremony.
Brother Leckenby commenced the ceremony by giving a little bit of the history of the tournaments, noting that this was the centenary year of the Brock Bowling Tournament.
He made special mention of the fact that within the winning rink of 1987 was a certain F.G. Campbell, now Master of the Lodge, and within the winning Claude Hamilton team of 1987 was a certain W.H. Cairns, now Chairman of the Competition Committee.
The Brock Competition Chairman, Bro. Jamie Stevenson, thereafter intimated that the runners-up were a rink from Lodge Bonhill & Alexandria St. Andrew’s Royal Arch Lodge No. 321. Brother Leckenby presented the runners-up trophy to Brother George McCaughey, the only member of the rink present, following which he presented the Brock Cup, a special centenary trophy for the Lodge to keep, and individual crystal tankards and gold medals to the winning rink :-
Lead : David Colquhoun, 2nd: Bernard Hoffman, 3rd: David Rice, Skip: Tom Colquhoun.
As Tom and Bernard had been unable to attend the Meeting, Brother David Colquhoun thanked the Provincial Grand Master for the presentation, and confirmed that his rink would defend the trophy once again next year.
